CHOIR Team ‘Suara Anak Seni’ of Mukim Gadong ‘A’ walked home with a $1,500 prize for their rendition of the song ‘Brunei Bumi Bertuah’ after emerging champions of the third Patriotic Songs Choir Competition among Mukims and villages organised in conjunction with Brunei Darussalam’s 34th National Day.
The guest of honour, YB Siti Rozaimeriyanty binti Dato Seri Laila Jasa Haji Abdul Rahman, a member of the Legislative Council, presented the prizes during a ceremony at the Information Department auditorium hall at Old Airport, Berakas on Saturday.
The first runner-up Permata Permai from Mukim Lumapas with their version of ‘Bahagia Brunei Darussalam’, won $1,300, while Choir Team ‘Harmoni Perkasa’ from Mukim Berakas ‘B’ placed third, won the $1,000 prize.
Choir teams from Azkayra of Mukim Serasa, Generasi Berwawasan MPK Sungai Bunga from Mukim Kota Batu and Bakanita from Mukim Berakas ‘B’ each received a $500 consolation prize.
The choir competition finals will be held in each district with Tutong District tomorrow, followed by Belait District on February 8 and Temburong District on February 10.
Prior to the prize presentation, Chairperson of the competition, Hajah Hamsah binti Datu Kerna Haji Jaya expressed her hopes that the competition will be able to enhance the spirit of patriotism among participants.
The competition is also a platform for local singers to take part in programmes organised by the Information Department as a buildup to the National Day celebrations on February 23.
Also present were Legislative Council member and Penghulu of Mukim Berakas ‘B’ (Zone 2), YB Pengiran Haji Ali bin Pengiran Maon, together with village heads, officials from the Information Department and supporters of the choir groups.
