THE Auto Computer Aided Design (AutoCAD) Course Portfolio Showcase exhibition, organised by the Youth Development Centre (PPB), Belait District branch, officially opened yesterday at the conference hall at Jalan Mckerron, Kuala Belait.
The event, which will run until today, showcases building models constructed by 17 PPB trainees who are studying or have finished their AutoCAD course.
Many of the models seen at the venue were constructed by the trainees – who worked in groups of three to four – over the course of three months prior to the event, with planning starting around November last year.
Six 1:100 scale models of varying designs and purposes are on display at the exhibition.
The course allows the trainees to learn about design using computers – hence the term Computer Aided Design or CAD for short – with the advantages being an increase in productivity for the designer, improvements in quality of design, as well as improvements in communication through documentation.
The trainees were also taught how to create a database for manufacturing convenience.
The event was officiated by guest of honour YB Siti Rozaimeriyanty binti Dato Seri Laila Jasa Haji Abdul Rahman, a member of the Legislative Council (LegCo), who was welcomed by Amhra Farahiyah binti Haji Mohd Hamdilah, an officer at the Youth and Sports Department.
Also present was YB Hanapi bin Mohd Siput, a LegCo member and Village Head of Kampong Labi 1.
In her speech, Amhra Farahiyah explained that the event gave the trainees the opportunity to showcase their talents and skills picked up in their AutoCAD course, noting that the project is a cooperative effort between the PPB and the Public Works Department (JKR).
“The scale models we see here today are the culmination of months of hard work by the trainees with guidance from Haji Zainal bin Haji Zaman, Head of Town Planning,” she continued.
“The various models created by the trainees were a result of their creativity and imagination. The models built here collectively represent a youth park, which is designed with the theme ‘by youth for youth’,” she added.
“As such, the models were made with the focus on venues for youth recreational activities, such as gatherings, sporting activities, and more. The designing and modeling process will hopefully not stop here… hopefully the scale model community will be expanded by other agencies, and even be made into reality.”
Amhra Farahiyah urged for support from the government and private sector to give a chance to the newly graduated PPB trainees to help develop the country and moving it into the future.
Nur Wira Faizura binti Ismail, one of the trainees from Intake 6 of the AutoCAD course in the Belait District, explained to the Bulletin that her group designed and created a model of a proposed auditorium.
“We came up with the idea of an auditorium as a group and it is designed to be multi-purpose and being able to cater for various events and activities,” she said, adding proudly that their creation was the result of an earnest group effort.
“When one of us was struggling to meet the deadline, we all banded together to ensure that everything goes smoothly.”
