THE Information Department under the Prime Minister’s Office through the Nationhood Unit, Nationhood and Community Division carried out a roadshow on the use of banners, the national flag and materials associated with national interest yesterday, to further enhance public understanding, knowledge and awareness on these matters.
The roadshow took place at the department’s auditorium hall.
Present at the roadshow yesterday were Hajah Noorashidah binti Haji Aliomar, Acting Deputy Director of Information Department and officers from the Department of Adat Istiadat Negara, Attorney General’s Chambers; Authority for Building Control and Construction Industry (ABCi); Ministry of Development; and Treasury Department at the Ministry of Finance.
Around 40 participants comprising managers and supervisors ranging from printing and constructions companies, banks as well as departmental stores attended the one-day roadshow.
The roadshow is part of the efforts in respecting the Sultanate’s sovereignty and good name, instil the responsibility of respecting and protecting the national flag’s integrity and the national crest of Brunei Darussalam and to ensure that the use of banners, the national flag and materials that have national interest is implemented according to the right guidelines and procedures.
Hajah Hamsah binti Datu Kerna Haji Jaya, Information Officer during her briefing at the roadshow touched on the proper ways of using the materials, to avoid any misuse, and nurture a sense of respect and willingness to keep the integrity of the national flag and crest.
She also shared the common mistakes such as displaying or hoisting a torn and faded national flag, allowing the national flag to become covered with plants, attaching the national flag to a flagpole of unsuitable height and hoisting it at an inappropriate location and hoisting it on the reverse side instead of the obverse (front).
Hajah Hamsah explained the need to fully respect the national flag, as it is a significant item that features the state crest, which doubles as the symbol of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam.
A video presentation on the proper procedure in hoisting the national flag was shown to the participants before the roadshow ended with a question-and-answer session.
