MINISTER of Health, Dato Paduka Dr Haji Mohd Isham bin Jaafar urged nurses to advance their knowledge and step up efforts towards self-excellence by giving honest and sincere service, enhancing the quality of treatment and care, being farsighted in their vision and grabbing opportunities in capacity development.
Speaking at the convocation and certificate presentation ceremony for Nursing Assistance Course (General Nursing and Midwifery) under the Human Resource Fund of JPKE Cohort 1 at Al-‘Afiah Hall of the Ministry of Health (MoH), Dato Paduka Dr Haji Mohd Isham also urged them to uphold the national philosophy Malay Islamic Monarchy (MIB) and inculcate the culture of safe and systematic treatment in accordance with nursing etiquette while providing services.
“Nurses should also instil the culture of respecting others and cooperate among themselves towards supporting the vision and mission of the MoH. One should also work with noble intention and think analytically before or while executing tasks to produce a more productive and effective outcome,” the minister added.
He also said that for capacity enhancement and nursing skills development, the MoH emphasises on human resource development, especially in enhancing knowledge of nurses and midwives in the country.
“This includes providing opportunities to nurses and midwives to undergo in-service training and study short and long-term courses domestically and abroad. Undergraduates are encouraged to make full use of their time to acquire knowledge through courses offered by the government.”
Dato Paduka Dr Haji Mohd Isham noted that communication skills are sometimes neglected by healthcare personnel. “Effective communication is crucial to ensure that best care is given to patients. Hence, guidelines to ensure effective communication among health staff should be given utmost attention to prevent any undesirable incidents from happening.
