SEVERAL parents have voiced their concerns on the issue of the inavailability of certain textbooks in local bookstores, a problem, they lamented, which also arose a couple of years ago.

One parent who requested anonymity shared his disappointment after failing to get hold of a textbook on past-year GCE ‘O’ Level examinations papers, pointing out that even after going back and forth from one bookshop to another in the Brunei-Muara District, he was still not able to acquire the required textbook.

“Surprisingly, they have in stock the books in other subjects but none for English, and this is really disappointing as I have been trying to get hold of the book for the past week and have been coming back to the shops to check if the stock has arrived,” he said.

With children needing to prepare for exams, especially with the June examinations early next month, he called on the relevant authorities to ensure that suppliers have extra stock of books on important subjects most likely to be taken by students in upcoming international exams.

“I am sure there is no harm in ordering extra supplies to meet the market demand so that inconveniences such as some students not having their textbooks and workbooks ready during the start of school,” the parent added.
