BRUNEI Darussalam remains committed to strengthen efforts in preserving regional and global peace, security and stability as well as to fight terrorism and violent extremism, said Minister of Defence II, Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof.

The minister, who is also the Chairman of National Security Committee, made these comments during the 9th International Meeting of High-Ranking Officials Responsible for Security Matters in Sochi, the Russian Federation held from April 24 – 26.

He highlighted Brunei Darussalam’s adoption of a ‘whole-of-nation approach’ as well as strong partnership with all sectors of the societies in countering terrorism threats. He added that it is no longer the sole responsibility of law enforcement and security agencies to effectively prevent the infiltration of radical ideologies into the country.

He said that continuous enhancement of operational capabilities and strengthening the regional and international cooperation are strategies to counter international terrorism.
