A TOTAL of 101 participants from the government and private sectors attended the first ever National Weather Briefing organised by the Brunei Darussalam Meteorological Department (BDMD), Ministry of Communications (MinCom) following its launching during the World Meteorological Day 2018 celebration.
The event was held at the Main Auditorium of the Design and Technology Building in Anggerek Desa yesterday.
Meteorological Officer Mohd Noor’Arifin bin Haji Yussof delivered the introductory briefing while fellow BDMD meteorologist Nurulinani binti Haji Jahari briefed the attendees about Brunei Darussalam’s weather as well as climate and seasonal outlook for May, June and July.
The National Weather Briefing is one of the department’s and the MinCom’s initiatives to foster engagement with different user groups such as those from safety and first responders, economy and industry groups and mass media.
The briefing aimed to provide an opportunity for existing as well as potential users of weather and climate information to interact directly with the BDMD and communicate their respective needs for information and services.
The National Weather Briefing’s ultimate goal is to improve understanding and awareness of various user groups towards the current weather conditions affecting Brunei Darussalam, and also to facilitate end-users to be more weather-ready and have a better understanding of the country’s climate. Other activities included promotion and selling of BDMD’s coffee-table book titled ‘Nubivagant With Wondrous Scenes of The Abode of Peace’ as well as the promotion of the Brunei WX Mobile Application.
