MORE than 1,392 booths from 540 enterprises, showcasing fabrics such as silk, chiffon, leather works, printed fabrics, as well as miscellaneous home accessories and textiles with elaborate designs, stretched across the purple-carpeted floors as far as my eyes could see.
The setup was part of the three-day Keqiao Textile Expo (spring) 2018 recently held from May 6 – 8 at the China Textile City International Convention & Exhibition Centre in Shaoxing, China.
The exhibition, with its ‘International, Fashion, Green and High-end’ theme and ‘Government-led and market operation’ concept, aimed to showcase and market the products of China’s flourishing textiles and fashion industry to both domestic and international buyers.
Speaking to the Weekend Bulletin, Faye Wong, the director of Shaoxing Mulinsen Textile Co Ltd, shared that by 2018 her company has made 50 to 60 per cent of exports to Southeast Asia.
“We have been working together with various delegates from the garment industry to penetrate both the Asian and international markets,” she said. “To promote our firm and products to the international market, we frequently partake in exhibitions such as this – normally we join up to six such textile fairs per year – and do online marketing such as through Alibaba.”
A representative from another participating vendor, Textile Sanmai Fabric Co, meanwhile, explained that they have managed to penetrate a number of international textile markets such as South America, USA, Europe, Mexico as well as Sri Lanka, clocking up USD3 million per year in exports.
The company has branches in Fujian and Shanghai, and is targetting to break into the Southeast Asian market, the representative added.
This is the 20th year in which the Keqiao Textile Expo is being held since its establishment. With its mission of ‘living up to the expectations of the enterprises and the industry’, the expo seeks to create value by providing a platform for commerce and trade, information exchange and fashion promotion for both suppliers and buyers, as well as to showcase new innovations and new creative textile designs and methods in the textile making industry in China.
Other events held side by side with the expo include the China-EU Fashion Dream Incubator Opening Ceremony and China-EU Fashion Development Forum, 2018 Keqiao Fashion Week – which includes the second China Dress Custom Summit Forum and 2018 CNGA Custom Specialised Committee Annual Meeting, Textile Future Exhibition 2018, and the 19SS China Womenswear Fabric Trend Exhibition.
