THE National Service Programme (PKBN) is widely recognised as a useful foundation for youths in the country, providing them the spiritual and physical training to prepare them for the challenges of the real world.
Attesting to this are Farah Faezah Sururul Nazurah and her brother Muhammad Faiz Hafizuddin, who are grateful to have joined the programme, saying, “We not only went through a lot of spiritual and physical learning during the three-month placement at PKBN, but also came out as PKBN alumni and have been given opportunities to partake in several volunteer activities, which we found very beneficial in terms of real-world social experience.
“Through PKBN, we have been given the opportunity to learn independently in the fields we are passionate about, which are cookery and business by means of the PKBN Ramadhan Programme 2018,” said Farah, who described the opportunity as being “a dream come true” to her.
Meanwhile, Haji Sohaili bin Haji Mohidi, a representative of the 7th PKBN Parent Alumni Association, expressed gratitude to His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam for establishing the PKBN.
He also thanked the director and staff of PKBN, as well as the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS) for “giving their attention and encouragement to the PKBN alumni.”
“I urge parents to do their part and let their children join the PKBN Training Camp in Temburong. This will go a long way in helping the country achieve its youth vision in line with PKBN’s slogan Bersedia, Berkhidmat dan Berbakti,” he said.
PKBN is a programme that carries the aim of producing youths who are responsible, disciplined, dynamic, united and courageous, and who are able to contribute to the country’s socio-economic development and strengthen national defence.
Implemented by the MCYS, the programme’s goal is to enhance the spirit of patriotism, commitment and resilience among the country’s youth, as well as strengthen their understanding on the constitution of the state and the Malay Islamic Monarchy (MIB) philosophy.
PKBN’s prime objectives as outlined on its website are to create excellent Bruneian youths, enhance committed and resilient patriotism, strengthen understanding and produce youths who are devoted, foster a sense of solidarity, form positive characters and the spirit of volunteerism and produce youths who are responsible, steadfast, energetic and full of confidence.
