TO HELP lessen the financial burden of people, especially during the upcoming Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration, the Brunei Islamic Religious Council (MUIB) yesterday handed over BND16,200 as cash donation to 60 heads of poor families residing around Sungai Kelugos in Tutong.
This was part of the BND1,173,950 allocated this year by the MUIB for a total of 6,551 recipients comprising Asnaf Fakir Miskin throughout the country.
The cash donation comes from the pool of Zakat funds – Zakat Fitrah and Zakat Harta collected in 2017.
The ceremony was held at Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Anak Sarah Mosque in Kampong Sungai Kelugos in Tutong.
The donations were handed over to the recipients by the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Religious Affairs and a member of the MUIB Dato Seri Setia Haji Abdul Aziz bin Orang Kaya Maharaja Lela Haji Mohd Yusof.
It is hoped that the donation will help reduce the hardships faced by the poor in the country and assist them in the preparation for one of the most meaningful celebrations in the Islamic calendar – the Hari Raya Aidilfitri – celebrated after a month-long fasting during the holy month of Ramadhan.
Also in attendance during the ceremony at Kampong Kelugos were Acting Secretary of the Brunei Islamic Religious Council Haji Abdul Aziz bin Haji Akop and Village Head of Kampong Sungai Kelugos Haji Ismail bin Haji Mohamad.
