THE Committee of 2017/18 of the Bruneian Around Sydney Society (BASS) in Sydney, Australia hosted a mass Iftar (breaking of fast) recently with the Islamic Society (ISOC) of University of New South Wales (UNSW).
Around 450 guests comprising local and international Muslims associated with UNSW and ISOC attended the event.
Present as the guest of honour was the Vice Chancellor of UNSW, Professor Ian Jacobs and on hand to welcome guests was President of BASS Dayangku Nur Anis Amarunnisa binti Pengiran Haji Kamarudzaman.
Following the Iftar, guests performed mass Maghrib prayer led by BASS religious committee member Muhammad Faris bin Ali.
Mass Iftar is carried out annually by ISOC and BASS and serves as a means to share Brunei’s religious culture with UNSW’s Muslim society besides contributing donations for a mosque in the eastern suburbs of Sydney.
Bruneian students managed to collect AUD5,000 as donations.
The BASS committee of 2018/19 also extended its highest appreciation to all the donors who supported to make the event a success.
