QAF Auto Sdn Bhd, the sole importer and distributor of BMW vehicles in Brunei Darussalam, yesterday made an official delivery of one unit of the all-new BMW 5 Series to the Embassy of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam in Brunei Darussalam at its BMW showroom in Beribi.

Receiving the vehicle from QAF Auto General Manager Sivakumar Krishnan on behalf of the Vietnamese Embassy was Ambassador of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam to Brunei Darussalam, Do Anh Tuan.

The embassy car comes with an optional BMW display key. Carried over from the BMW 7 Series, the key is a piece of smart technology which doubles up as a remote control and touchscreen. It additionally shows a number of useful information about the car, and allows the driver to manoeuvre the car into tight and inaccessible parking spaces, all while standing outside the vehicle.

The first-generation BMW 5 Series was introduced back in the 1970s, and was then known as the E12 (520i) and powered by inline-four engines. The German automaker has released six further generations of the line-up in the intervening years since.

Today, the all-new BMW 5 Series is known as the G30, and comes in the 520i (1,998cc), 520d (1,997cc), 530i (1,998cc) and 540i (2,998cc) specifications.

Aluminium and aluminium alloys are used extensively in the all-new BMW 5 Series chassis, making it lighter and stiffer than its predecessor. This, coupled with near perfect weight distribution, means that the new car is a dynamic and responsive drive, making the all-new BMW 5 Series a class leader.

Over the years, QAF Auto has established a shining reputation as the official transportation partner for some of the most major events in Brunei.

Among these include the 2000 APEC Summit; His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam’s 64th birthday celebrations in 2010; Brunei International Defence Exhibition (BRIDEX) in 2009, 2011 and 2013; the 23rd ASEAN Summit in 2013; and most recently the Golden Jubilee Celebration of His Majesty’s Accession to the Throne.
