FOUR out of 33 drivers from 25 transport companies were found to repeat an offence by the Enforcement Division of the Land Transport Department (JPD) during operations held from June 5 – 7 on Telisai-Lumut, Muara-Berakas and Kuala Lurah highways.
The four drivers were fined BND500 each for a fourth offence of carrying overload.
As a follow-up action, the JPD has issued a temporary suspension notice to the transportation companies where these drivers are employed.
In a statement, the JPD said it will not hesitate to issue fines and Driver Safety Practice System (SiKAP) demerit points to drivers who violate road traffic rules and regulations in a bid to ensure the safety and well-being of the people, especially road users.
During the operation, another driver was charged BND150 and slapped with 12 SiKAP demerit points for a second offence of driving without a valid licence.
Compound fines and SiKAP demerit points were also issued for offences like spilled load, not installing light reflector, parking in non-authorised place and using bald tyres.
JPD said it will continue to conduct surveillance operations aimed at ensuring that all motor vehicle drivers are well-disciplined while driving and the vehicle is in good condition and according to the rules set.
The JPD welcomed the public’s cooperation in ensuring road safety and urged them to lodge complaints related to road traffic offences by contacting JPD Enforcement Division hotline and JPD Enforcement through WhatsApp at +6737292017 or Darussalam line WhatsApp at +6738333123.
