THE Sri Lanka Association of Brunei Darussalam (SLABD) donated essential food items to 35 underprivileged families from Kg Benutan in the Tutong District.
The second underprivileged family donation programme was held at the Kg Benutan Mosque. Last year, 21 families received donations.
The donations were handed over by the President of the SLABD, I M Ranasinghe; Secretary, Tehan Gunathilaka; Treasurer, Pujitha Senanayake; Social Secretary, Chandana Athauda and Assistant Secretary, Captain (Rtd) Riency Samarahewa.
Also in attendance were Imam Haji Mohd Khairul bin Haji Razak of Kg Benutan Mosque, Tutong and Haji Noralimin bin Sulong, Village Head of Kg Benutan.
The recipients expressed their gratitude to the SLABD and iterated that the essentialfood items are very important for their families during the month of Ramadhan.
On May 29, the association also hosted its first charity drive to raise funds for victims of the deadly flood and landslides in Sri Lanka and donated school stationery to 208 children who were affected by the disaster.
Another event is expected to be held in October 2016 themed ‘Blood Donation for Saving Lives’ at The Airport Mall in Berakas.
