THE Brunei Darussalam Scouts Association (PPNBD), through the Cub Scouts Section, yesterday organised its 1st Cub Scouts Sport Fun Day.
The sporting event, held in conjunction with the 85th anniversary of PPNBD in the Sultanate, played out at the Berakas Sports Complex. A host of activities, particularly for Cub Scouts members at the primary school, was held during the event.
The event also coincided with Brunei Darussalam Scouts Day celebration. Brunei was accepted as the 117th full member of the World Organization of Scout Movement (WOSM).
Cub Scouts members had the opportunity to interact with one another at the event.
According to the National Scout Commissioner (Cub Scouts Section) Hajah Noraini binti Haji Saidi – who is also the organising chairperson of the event and Cub Scouts leader of Orang Kaya Besar Imas Primary School – the programme allowed all Cub Scout to showcase their talents and skills, and at the same time, instil an interest in sports.
The programme also aims to produce potential athletes, provide basic knowledge on sports and games, as well as instill the sport culture at the school level.
The event commenced with a march-past competition, before an aerobics exercise.
Eleven sporting events were set-up includeing Cub Scouts uniform, reef knot and a puzzle.
The competition – which adopted a teamwork concept with six in each group – saw the involvement of 300 Cub Scouts members and leaders from Orang Kaya Besar Imas Primary School, Kampong Mata-Mata Primary School, Pengiran Anak Puteri Besar Primary School, Sungai Kebun Primary School, Pulaie Primary School, Anggerek Desa Primary School, Sultan Hashim Batu Apoi Primary School, Sinaran Mas School, Chung Hwa Middle School Bandar Seri Begawan (BSB) and DES School.
Legislative Council member Yang Berhormat Iswandy bin Ahmad launched the event.
Scout Chief Commissioner Haji Badar bin Haji Ali, Acting Deputy National Scout Chief Commissioner cum Scout Programme Commissioner Junaidi bin Haji Hussin, scout commissioners, executive scout officer, scout leaders, assistant Scout leaders and parents attended the event.
The Cub Scouts team from Chung Hwa Middle School BSB was the overall winner, followed by teams from Sinaran Mas School and Sultan Hashim Batu Apoi Primary School. Meanwhile, the team from Sinaran Mas School won the march-past competition.
