THE Lions Club of Bandar Seri Begawan (Lions Club BSB) recently handed over two sets of tables and chairs to Pusat Ehsan Al-Ameerah Al-Hajjah Maryam for the occupational therapy room at the centre’s new building.
Present at the handover ceremony were officers from the Lions Club BSB, led by President Sunil Ramchandani, and the management committee of Pusat Ehsan, led by Lim Ah Tee.
The centre’s occupational therapy room conducts one-to-one rehabilitation sessions for its students – numbering up to 30 per class – with a focus on developing the students’ sitting tolerance, fine motor skills, as well as behavioural and self-help skills. The centre also accepts outpatient clients.
Speaking about Lions Club BSB’s association with Pusat Ehsan, Ramchandani said, “We continue to support Pusat Ehsan in line with our club’s active interest in the civic, cultural, social and moral welfare of the community.”
Ramchandani added that the club, established in 1970, “has collaborated with Pusat Ehsan in community services and has donated furniture to the centre in the past, and is constantly striving to be fully in touch with community issues in general”.
“In Brunei Darussalam, the community is very fortunate to have a government that is always reaching out to the people and is supportive of programmes aimed at lessening the burden of the poor and those who have suffered from tragedies,” he continued.
“I believe that the Lions Club BSB can play a key role in support of the government as well as to reach out to sections of the community that have less access to assistance.
“We are proud to note as well that a Lions Club-sponsored youth organisation, the Leo Club of International School Brunei (ISB), chipped in to paint the rooms at Pusat Ehsan recently.”
The president added that Pusat Ehsan has been supporting the Lions Club’s efforts in various community programmes, which involve helping children with learning disabilities.
He also stressed that “the Lions Club BSB is always willing to help out in the various community programmes and hopes to have long-term engagements with non-governmental organisations in this country”.
