HIS Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam yesterday consented to confer state honorary medals on 183 recipients in conjunction with the monarch’s 72nd birth anniversary.
During the investiture ceremony held at Balai Singgahsana Indera Kenchana at Istana Nurul Iman, His Majesty conferred the medals on the recipients, comprising civil servants, uniformed personnel and leaders from the business community in recognition of their dedication and loyalty in rendering services to the government and the country.
Also in attendance at the ceremony were His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office; His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Malik; and His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Wakeel.
Also present were His Royal Highness Prince Mohamed Bolkiah, His Royal Highness Prince Haji Sufri Bolkiah and His Royal Highness Prince Haji Jefri Bolkiah.
During the ceremony, His Majesty conferred the Most Eminent Order of Islam Brunei, Third Class (SSUB) to three recipients; the Most Distinguished Order of Paduka Seri Laila Jasa, Third Class (SLJ) to one recipient; the Most Honourable Order of Seri Paduka Mahkota Brunei, Third Class (SMB) to 17 recipients; the Most Eminent Order of Islam Brunei, Fourth Class (SUB) to four recipients; the Most Blessed Order of Setia Negara Brunei, Fourth Class (PSB) to 135 recipients and the Most Eminent Order of Islam Brunei, Fifth Class (PUB) to 23 recipients.
The recipients comprised those serving in different government ministries and departments including the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), Ministry of Defence (MinDef), Ministry of Health (MoH), Ministry of Education (MoE) and Ministry of Religious Affairs (MoRA) as well as leaders in the business community and private sector.
Among the criteria for the medal award are praiseworthy attitude, good behaviour and undivided loyalty towards His Majesty, the nation and religion. Civil servant recipients of these medals should possess a clean record in all services with His Majesty’s Government and have good performance appraisal for the last three years.
Among those present at the ceremony were Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran-Pengiran Cheteria, Pengiran-Pengiran Peranakan, Cabinet Ministers, members of the Legislative Council, permanent secretaries, senior government officials and members of the Diplomatic Corps.
To bless the ceremony, a Doa Selamat was recited by the State Mufti Pehin Datu Seri Maharaja Dato Paduka Seri Setia (Dr) Ustaz Haji Awang Abdul Aziz bin Juned.
