MUHD Nurjamri Johari of the Tutong District took gold in the Cross-Country (XCO)Olympic Race in the 4th Brunei Darussalam National Games (SKBD) amid fierce competition from prospective SUKMA Games athletes at the Berakas Forest Reserve yesterday.
The experienced rider clocked in a time of 1:17:06.890 ahead of his teammate Mohd Waie bin Abdullah who won silver with a time of 1:17:43.056 in second place while Mazran bin Haji Mohd Jamin of Brunei-Muara District settled for bronze with a time of 1:19:38.806.
“I did not expect to finish first; I actually set a target of a top three finish. There is a number of SUKMA competitors who will be representing the country in the field,” said Nurjamri in an interview with the media.
He added the wet conditions helped as he had trained mostly in rainy conditions.
The race marked the first time that Nurjamri represented the Tutong District having competed for the Royal Brunei Police Force Sports Council (MS PDB) in the past.
After the win, he expressed his hopes to be selected for the Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Manila next year if the sport was to be held. And closer ahead, he hoped that his win could enhance his preparations for the Asia Cup in November.
