Moroccan sprints away to victory at Firefighter Run

YOUNES Ammouta from Morocco finished first in the Male 10km Open category followed by Sefli Ahar and Awangku Md Nurhafizan bin Pengiran Haji Md Hassan in the Firefighter Run 2018 at the Dermaga Diraja, Bandar Seri Begawan yesterday morning.

The event, which attracted some 1,000 poeple, was organised in conjunction with the Fire and Rescue Department’s 58th anniversary.

The event aimed to promote the health and well-being of Fire and Rescue Department personnel in addressing daily challenges.

Guest of honour Minister of Home Affairs Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia (Dr) Haji Awang Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong officiated the event.

“I am happy to have won. The weather was good, a bit cooling after the morning rain. We ran through the Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha Bridge which is amazing,” said Younes Ammouta.

Acting Director of Fire and Rescue Colonel (Rtd) Pengiran Haji Maiddin bin Pengiran Haji Said, Deputy Director Lim Hock Guan and senior officials of the Fire and Rescue Department were also present.

The Minister of Home Affairs and officials participated in an aerobics warm-up session prior to the flag-off for around 600 participants of open categories of 10km for male and female followed by the fun run and cycling.

An exhibition comprising fire prevention and safety equipment from several private companies as well as products from Kampong Rimba Village Consultative Council under the project ‘One House, One Fire Extinguisher’ was set up.

Permanent Secretary (Safety, Welfare and Law) at the Ministry of Home Affairs Mohd Amir Hairil bin Haji Mahmud presented certificates of appreciation to sponsors and winners.

Cecilia Maksimon finished first in the Female 10km Open category followed by Julia Durston and Koh Pey Tsy.

The winner of logo, medal and certificate design of the Firefighter Run was firefighter 1088 Chong Chee Fung while the winner for Firefighter Run’s shirts and bib was firefighter 960 Mohd Nur Rudzainy bin Murny.
