TO ENSURE that supermarkets and businesses selling popular food items across the country adhere to prices set by the Department of Economic Planning and Development (JPKE) during the festive season, an inspection took place at two locations in Tanjung Bunut yesterday.

Twelve JPKE personnel, led by Haji Abdul Amin bin Haji Hashim, JPKE Deputy Director-General, conducted the inspection based on the quality of selected food items.

The Price Control Division implemented a price controlling system on goods during the holy month of Ramadhan and upcoming Hari Raya, so that it does not exceed the maximum price set by the department. The division will continuously and regularly monitor the prices on selected items.

According to the deputy director-general, JPKE has been working closely with the Department of Agriculture and Agrifood, Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism on setting the maximum price for selected items which include poultry, meat, flour, eggs, margarine, cooking oil, condensed milk, cream, buttermilk, coconut milk, chilli powder, dried shrimp, spring roll skin and hazelnut chocolates.

Speaking to the Bulletin, the deputy director-general said, “We are very happy with the adherence to the rules and regulations that we have set on the prices of goods and services during Ramadhan and Hari Raya, mainly on those food categories that are usually used in the preparation of items in the fasting month and during Hari Raya.”

“JPKE will continue to carry out routine checks on supermarkets chosen at random and scheduled inspections at all related premises in the country,” he added.

JPKE urged the public to lodge a complaint to JPKE if there are occurrences of supermarkets selling controlled items above the specified maximum price.

The price list is available on the website JPKE www.depd.gov.bn.

Complaints can be lodged through the following: Hotline – 30223 during office hours, or via e-mail: aduanpengguna@jpke.gov.bn or consumer complaint on Facebook: www.facebook.com/AduanPengguna.

JPKE is located at Room 3:04, Level 3, West Wing, Block 2A, Jalan Ong Sum Ping, Bandar Seri Begawan, BSB.
