TWO local shuttlers took home medals in the badminton event of the first Asia Pacific Masters Games (APMG) at the Penang City Stadium in Malaysia on September 7-15.
Abdul Gapar Obey and Nurliana Abdullah competed in the Open Men’s and Women’s Double where they were paired with other badminton players of similar age group.
Abdul Gapar won gold in the Open Men’s Double 60+ with Foo Kon Fai of Singapore. He also managed to bag bronze in the Open Men’s Double 55+ with Malaysia’s Chong Siew Han.
Nurliana Abdullah won bronze in both Open Women’s Single 60+ group, and the Open Women’s Double, paired with Lee Poh Wah of Australia.
The couple also competed in the Open Mixed Teams 60+ category, winning bronze overall.
Abdul Gapar and Nurliana said the competition helped them to test their skills against other badminton players outside Brunei and to foster healthy ties among like-minded players.
