DPMM FC head coach Rene Weber has highlighted that the second leg of the Singapore Cup first round against Warriors FC will be an entirely brand new game and called his charges for a repeat of a strong performance at the Choa Chu Kang Stadium in Singapore tonight.
Despite preserving a four-game unbeaten run against the Warriors this season including the 2-1 win last Saturday, Weber pointed out that their next encounter is keenly balanced.
“I think there will be no advantage in the cup (Singapore Cup). It is another competition and it is another game,” said Weber in an interview with the Football Association of Singapore (FAS) recently.
“They made two changes today with players coming from the national team in the second half and they will come back strong next Wednesday,” he added.
“I am happy with the league and I hope if we can play strong we can win the game,” said the former Atletico Mineiro Assistant Manager.
Meanwhile, Warriors FC defender Emmeric Ong said, “I don’t think there will be a psychological boost for them (DPMM FC). The good thing for us is we have a few more days before we play again and we can get our revenge against them.
“Of course maybe psychologically they think that since they won last time and they can beat us again, but every game is different in football. So, we stand an equal chance,” he said.
The first leg of the Singapore Cup first round ended in a 2-2 draw after goals from DPMM FC duo Brian McLean and Volodymyr Priyomov cancelled out efforts from Jonathan Behe and Ignatius Ang.
The winner of the two-legged first round tie will meet Balestier Khalsa, who beat Geylang International 1-0 in aggregate, in the semi-finals.
