FIVE school teams have made it into the final round of the Celik Biz Competition for Primary School National Level 2018, after successfully navigating past five other teams in the preliminary round on August 30.
The finalists are St Andrew’s School, Chung Hwa Middle School (Kuala Belait), Fairview School, Cemerlang Abejess School and Beribi Telanai Primary School.
Organised by Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam (BIBD) with support from the Akli Unit of the Co-Curriculum Education Department and Radio Television Brunei (RTB), the competition is open to primary school teams comprised Year 4 and Year 5 students, and primarily aimed at providing the students exposure to entrepreneurship.
The competition gives the students the chance to develop their business skills and creativity through the implementation of a business project. Its goal is to spur an entrepreneurial spirit among the youth in a bid to stimulate entrepreneurship activities within the country.
BND50 in capital money was handed to each of the five finalists at the main hall of the Ministry of Education’s Curriculum Development Department yesterday.
The funds, meant for the teams to run their businesses for two weeks from September 24 till October 6, was presented by Acting Director of Co-Curriculum Education at the Ministry of Education Mohamed Jais bin Haji Abdul Rahman.
In his welcoming remarks, Head of Government Relations and Special Projects at BIBD Haji Mohammad Yusri bin Haji Wahsalfelah explained that the bank’s continuous support towards government pro-entrepreneurship initiatives, such as the Celik Biz Competition, is in line with BIBD’s goal of empowering and stimulating entrepreneurship activities in the country.
The programme hopes to serve as a medium to further support business development strategies in realising the Brunei Vision 2035, he said.
