BETTER days are in store for Siti Aminah binti Abdullah and her eight children, as they will soon have a home to call their own, thanks in no small part to the Islamic Da’wah Centre, Ministry of Religious Affairs (MoRA) and Brunei Islamic Religious Council (MUIB).
Construction work for the bungalow, located at Kampong Sungai Hanching, officially began with a foundation laying ceremony yesterday.
The house is equipped with three bedrooms, a living room, a kitchen and a toilet, and is expected to be completed by December this year.
Guest of honour Permanent Secretary at the MoRA Dato Seri Setia Haji Abdul Aziz bin Pehin Orang Kaya Maharaja Lela Haji Mohd Yusof officiated the ceremony. The construction of the house, which will cost BND68,000 – the bulk of which was contributed from MUIB’s tithe collections for the underprivileged – will be carried out by Syarikat Haji Mastan bin Metussin dan Anak Anak as the project’s main contractor.
Speaking in an interview, Siti Aminah, who is currently unemployed, said, “Three of my children are still in school, with the youngest aged five, while two are currently working in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.”
She continued, “I would like to convey my heartfelt gratitude to His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam for the new house.”
Acting Secretary of MUIB Haji Abdul Aziz bin Haji Akop; Acting Director of Administrative at the MoRA Mohammad Sofian bin Haji Basri; Acting Penghulu of Mukim Berakas ‘B’ Haji Jumat bin Nasir; and Acting Village Head of Kampong Sungai Hanching and Salambigar Haji Abdul Rahman bin Sapar were also present.
The guest of honour was also briefed on the project by Haji Roslin bin Haji Awang Bongsu, an architect at the Building and Maintenance Division of the MoRA.
