BRUNEIAN businesses are participating in the Tampines Hari Raya Bazaar 2016, courtesy of an opportunity provided by the Energy and Industry Department at the Prime Minister’s Office (EIDPMO), with the support of DARe (Darussalam Enterprise) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MoFAT).
The opportunity to participate in the bazaar was provided to assist the growth and development of local small and medium enterprises (SMEs).
The Tampines Hari Raya Bazaar is an annual event organised by the Malay Activity Executive Committee of Singapore.
This year’s bazaar was launched on May 30, and will continue until June 27 at the open field in Tampines Central 5. The yearly expected crowd to the bazaar is approximated at 30,000 customers, making the bazaar a desirable market for businesses hoping to sell festive food and products for the upcoming Hari Raya season.
In a press statement, EIDPMO explained that to ensure optimum opportunity for Bruneian participation and to ensure that as many local products and companies as possible could be showcased at the bazaar, EIDPMO opened up the opportunity to local companies by advertising through DARe and EIDPMO’s social media.
In total, eight companies were chosen to participate and represent Brunei at this year’s Tampines Hari Raya Bazaar. The local SMEs were eligible to receive support from the government in the form of flight tickets, while the transfer of their goods through cargo to Singapore was provided courtesy of Royal Brunei.
The companies are occupying Brunei Darussalam’s stall in shifts during the period of June 13-27. They are showcasing a variety of Bruneian brand products at Brunei Darussalam’s stall. This includes Muslimah fashion, urban clothing, Bruneian handicrafts and food.
Mumtaz Collections, Cahaya Butik and Covered by Annisa feature locally designed hijabs, jubahs and baju kurungs, following the latest Muslimah fashion trends for Hari Raya. Lokalground Enterprise is a contemporary clothing store carrying a variety of Bruneian brands that design T-shirts and caps that appeal to urban and trendy youth. Meanwhile, Ghanim International, Amal Hadizat Enterprise and Sabli Food International are showcasing Bruneian-produced food such as keropok, kuih mor, jagus rempah and many more, fit for serving during the Hari Raya festivities.
In addition, Musufiya Enterprise is offering Bruneian handicrafts that customers may display as unique decorations to beautify their living rooms for welcoming guests during the Hari Raya celebrations.
“Participation in regional bazaars will not only assist the growth of local SMEs, but are also opportunities to build SMEs’ confidence in their readiness to market their products outside of Brunei Darussalam,” reads the EIDPMO press statement. “Brunei Darussalam’s participation in the Tampines Hari Raya Bazaar is also a chance to further strengthen the already close relations enjoyed with Singapore,” it continues. “The Malay communities between the two countries share many similarities; therefore this is a good platform to further enhance this relationship during the special month of Ramadhan through cultural exchange.”
Businesses are encouraged to follow EIDPMO on social media in order to stay up to date with the latest opportunities to join international bazaars, expos and trade shows via @eidpmo.bn on Instagram and the EIDPMO’s Facebook page.
