IN CONJUNCTION with the recently-launched Amazing Thailand Grand Sale 2016, Bruneians heading off to Thailand for their shopping paradise will stand a chance to win an exciting prize of “Travel 365 Days in Thailand”, from June 15 to August 15.
According to the Tourism Authority of Thailand, Richard Lim Chew Lee, who is also Marketing Manager for Malaysia and Brunei, anyone who makes a purchase of up to $200 at the sale during the promotional period, will stand a chance to take part in a lucky draw and win the grand prize of 365 days in Thailand, inclusive of hotel stay and return air tickets.
“The Brunei market for Thailand is one of our strong and very a interesting one, because to us, the Brunei market is a niche market. Most of the tourists from Brunei are mostly repeat travellers, which they are now already familiar with Thailand,” said Richard. “Basically they like to go to Thailand for food and shopping, and these days they tend to go for medical check-ups.”
When asked about the number of Brunei visitors to Thailand, he said, “Last year we had about 13,800 people, which when compared to previous years, indicates a 20 per cent of growth.”
He added, “In 2014, there were about 11,200 visitors from Brunei, which increased to 22.58 per cent last year. We hope this year will be even better, but we see the overall market sensitivity due to oil pricing and a lot of the countries are still in their economic recovery.”
On Thailand’s strong selling point compared to other countries, Richard said, “There are many things that Thailand is particularly good at, such as hospitality and services. Many countries try to emulate Thai culture and cuisine, but the one value that they cannot copy is the ‘Thai-ness’,” alluding to the friendliness and warm hospitality which is instilled in the Thai people at an early age.
The Amazing Thailand Grand Sale is an annual event for the Tourism Authority of Thailand’s (TAT), with a special focus this year on female customers.
The fair is featuring 15,000 tourism business operators from than 110 department stores and shopping centres in seven major tourist destinations of Bangkok, Pattaya, Chiang Mai, Phuket, Hat Yai, Hua Hin and Udon Thani.
In addition, shoppers will get to enjoy special discounts, trendy items from world-class brands and chic street items from Thai young designers.
Besides street fashions and exotic resorts, Thailand is also the leading medical tourist centre in Southeast Asia, with a large per cent of its clientele from the Middle-East.
Halal food is also easily available in Thailand, and in 2015 the kingdom was ranked number two of the visited countries by Arab Muslims.
