HIS Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam yesterday attended the swearing-in ceremony for the newly appointed Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, President of the Court of Appeal, Judicial Commissioner of the Court of Appeal and High Court Judge.
Also present at the ceremony were His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and His Royal Highness Prince Haji Jefri Bolkiah.
The ceremony began with the reading of the Letter of Appointment by Grand Chamberlain Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Penggawa Laila Bentara Istiadat Diraja Dalam Istana Pengiran Haji Alauddin bin Pengiran Paduka Tuan Pengiran Haji Abu Bakar.
First to recite the oath to His Majesty was Dato Paduka Steven Chong Wan Oon as Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. This was followed by Michael Peter Burrell as President of the Court of Appeal; thereafter Michael Victor Lunn as Judicial Commissioner of the Court of Appeal; and Pengiran Datin Paduka Hajah Rostaina binti Pengiran Haji Duraman as High Court Judge.
Also present at the ceremony were Special Adviser to His Majesty and Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office Pehin Orang Kaya Laila Setia Bakti Diraja Dato Laila Utama Haji Awang Isa bin Pehin Datu Perdana Manteri Dato Laila Utama Haji Awang Ibrahim; Attorney General Dato Paduka Haji Hairol Arni bin Haji Abdul Majid; Judicial Commissioner of the Court of Appeal Conrad Seagrott; and Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court Haji Abdullah Soefri bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin.
The swearing-in ceremony took place at Istana Nurul Iman.
