SIX students from Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) and Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB) have successfully completed a two-week study trip in China, through the flagship programme, ‘Huawei Seeds for the Future’.
A closing ceremony was held at the Huawei headquarters in Shenzhen yesterday. The guest of honour was Deputy Minister of Education Datin Seri Paduka Dr Hajah Romaizah binti Haji Mohd Salleh.
The UTB students comprised Dayangku Siti Nur Diyana binti Pengiran Shahminan (Bachelor of Science in Computing), Muhammad bin Haji Ahmad Yazid (Bachelor of Electrical and Electronic Engineering) and Nurfadlhlin Sakina binti Haji Horariffin (Bachelor of Electrical and Electronic Engineering).
Meanwhile, the UBD students were Fatin Amanina binti Abdul Azis and Muhammad Taufiq Aiman bin Haji Hishamuddin (Bachelor of Engineering in Information and Communication Systems) and Nur Khairunnisa Haziqah binti Abdul Aziz (Bachelor of Engineering in Manufacturing Systems).
The programme participants were exposed to Huawei’s cloud computing, Internet of Things (IoT), 5G technologies, building and configuring their own 4G base stations and many other cutting-edge solutions through technology workshops and networking events.
Joining the flagship programme were four students from Costa Rica, 10 from Malaysia and 10 from Zambia.
In her speech, Datin Seri Paduka Dr Hajah Romaizah highlighted the importance of the education system in keeping abreast of changes brought about by the 4th Industrial Revolution, while also emphasising the need to strengthen coopera-tion and partnership between education institutions and leading global industries such as Huawei, to ensure that students remain relevant and updated on the needs of industries.
Also addressing the closing ceremony was Vice President of Global Government Affairs of Huawei Detlef Eckert, who underlined the importance of info-technology (IT) skills in a fully connected world.
“The ‘Seeds for the Future’ programme aims to encourage young people to embrace the opportunities which are inherent in digital technologies and to look beyond cultural and geographical borders,” he said.
