BRUNEI Darussalam swimmer Christian Nikles smashed two national open records for short course in the Carnegie Winter Open Meet 2018 at the Michael Wood Sports & Leisure Centre in Glenrothes, Scotland recently.
Nikles posted a new time of 1.01.41 in the 100m IM, eclipsing his old mark of 1:01.45 he previously sets in the FINA World Cup Singapore in November 2012.
He also lowered an old record time of 1:05.47 which was set by Nur Haziq Samil in the 3rd Brunei Open & Masters in March 2018 with a new time of 1:05.33 in the 100m backstroke.
As reward for his new national record milestone, Nikles will be entitled to the monetary award of BND300 for each record broken.
Nikles, who was named Best Boy in the Brunei Darussalam National Games (SKBD), will be competing in the FINA World Championships in Hangzhou, China next month which will be held from December 11-16.
The national swimmer was also a FINA Scholarship recipient in 2017.
