THE Brunei Council on Social Welfare (MKM) yesterday announced that the MKM Fun Run for Charity 2016, originally scheduled on July 31 at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium, Berakas, will be moved to a later date which will be announced after confirmation from the Ministry of Home Affairs.
This was stated by Haji Juhan bin Haji Tuah, executive member of MKM in his capacity as the chairman of the event, during a press conference at the MKM headquarters, Melabau Complex, Berakas.
The tentative date for the event, added Haji Juhan, will be on Sunday, October 23.
According to the Haji Juhan, the postponement is made in order to look into a number of technical and safety aspects that include the event area, as well as the safety of the participants that need to be taken into account, which have not been achieved by the organiser.
“Therefore the organising committee has changed the concept of the event to something that is easier and achievable, from ‘MKM Orienteering Charity Run’ to ‘MKM Fun Run for Charity’ without changing the objective and aim,” he added.
He also said the confirmation of the new date will be announced through print media, radio and MKM promotion booths that will be open at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium, the ground floor of Times Square Shopping Centre, and the MKM Headquarters.
The charity run will be open to the public with three categories, the 5km for men, 2.5km for women, and 2.5km costume run.
A fee of $35 for each participant comes with the run’s t-shirt, a medal, a face towel and a certificate of participation.
Those wishing to join can call the event hotline at 7146680 or the event manager at 8186848 for further information.
