THE Singapore Food Festival officially kicked off yesterday amidst an atmosphere of fervent anticipation.
The culinary showcase, part of activities hosted for Brunei December Festival 2018, was organised in association with the Singapore Tourism Board and Singapore High Commission in Brunei Darussalam.
Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Finance and Economy II Dato Seri Setia Dr Awang Haji Mohd Amin Liew bin Abdullah launched the event.
General Manager of Royal Brunei Catering Haji Jeff Hadiman bin Dato Paduka Haji Danial, members of the board of directors of Royal Brunei Catering, event partners and invited guests were also present.
In his welcoming remarks, Haji Jeff Hadiman explained that this is the second year in which Royal Brunei Catering is participating in Brunei December Festival.
“We’re bringing to the public the best culinary experience on offer by having one of Singapore’s most highly acclaimed Malay restaurants, Hjh Maimunah Restaurant, in town. The restaurant will have a number of its dishes featured at The Horizons Seafood Restaurant throughout the festival,” he said.
Singapore Food Festival is an event aimed at promoting “staycations” in Brunei and attracting tourists from abroad to this year’s Brunei December Festival. Visitors can expect sumptuous spreads of both traditional and contemporary Singaporean Malay flavours at the festival.
“The school holidays have begun, and what better way to celebrate than join us here in this food festival,” Haji Jeff Hadiman said. “Not everybody in Brunei will have the chance to fly to Singapore during these holidays, so we brought Singapore here for you – and for only two weeks, The Horizons Seafood Restaurant is opening its doors to the public to indulge in over 80 authentic Singapore kampong-style cuisine, without having to use a passport.”
From December 1-16, diners can enjoy delicious Singaporean fare from a selection of live stalls such as the Nyonya Curry Laksa stall, Nasi Lemak Singapore with Sambal Sotong stall and Singapore Hainanese Chicken Rice stall.
Supported by Baiduri Bank Berhad as the key sponsor, this year’s exciting ‘Rock, Shop & Recover’ themed promotion includes fantastic giveaways such as tickets to Ed Sheeran’s concert in Singapore, a Crazy Rich Asians behind the scenes food tour’, shopping vouchers worth BND1,000 at Takashimaya, as well as a three days/two nights stay at Marina Bay Sands Hotel, with all prizes coming with a pair of return air tickets to Singapore.
