LOCAL canoeists secured strong finishes within the top 10 in the Iskandar Puteri Kayak Challenge at Puteri Harbour Iskandar Puteri Johor, Malaysia yesterday.
A pair of Hassan and Rahemi finished in fourth place, while brothers Shahminan and Sharif finished in fifth, and Arif finished eighth with his partner Karim.
According to the Secretary General of Brunei National Canoeing Association (BNCA) Major (Rtd) Mohd Talip bin Haji Tahir, the team that won the challenge are very experienced paddlers from Johor and are the top in Malaysia, alongside the second and third place winners, who also won the Labuan Island Sea Challenge Kayak Race for the past 12 years.
“Congratulations to all the paddlers on their performance in managing to snatch a place in the top 10. And congratulations for their training efforts and individual commitment by their team manager to help lift the standard of Brunei Kayak Marathon within this region,” the secretary general said.
