THE Department of Town and Country Planning recently held mass Maghrib and Isyak prayers and a special religious talk at Rashidah Sa’adatul Bolkiah Mosque in Kampong Sungai Akar to commemorate World Town Planning Day.
The guest of honour at the event was Minister of Development Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Suhaimi bin Haji Gafar.
Also present were Minister of Defence II in his capacity as the Acting Minister of Home Affairs Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof, Minister of Health in his capacity as the Acting Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohd Isham bin Haji Jaafar, and Minister of Transport and Infocommunications Dato Seri Setia Awang Abdul Mutalib bin Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Setia Dato Paduka Haji Mohammad Yusof.
The activities at the mosque began with a mass Maghrib prayer led by the mosque Imam, followed by a special religious talk entitled ‘Penerapan Nilai-Nilai Islam Dalam Perancangan Bandar dan Desa’.
Mass Isyak prayer brought the event to a close.
Others in attendance included Deputy Minister of Development Haji Marzuke bin Haji Mohsin, members of the Legislative Council; permanent secretaries at the Ministry of Development and other ministries; members of the mosque Takmir Committee; heads of departments and senior officers from the Ministry of Development; as well as local residents.
World Town Planning Day, also known as World Urbanism Day, was founded in 1949 by the late Professor Carlos Maria della Paolera of the University of Buenos Aires to promote public and professional interest in urban planning.
It is celebrated in over 30 countries on November 8 every year.
