WIJAYA FC missed the chance to join the DST Super League title hopefuls in piling the pressure on league leaders MS ABDB after they were soundly beaten 3-0 by Kota Ranger FC at the Track and Field of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex recently.
MS ABDB opened a seven-point gap at the top of the table following a 1-0 win over basement dwellers Setia Perdana and looked to be in firm position of retaining the crown for their fourth successive title.
Two-time league winners Indera SC and Kasuka are their closest title challengers, and both are yet to play the army personnel.
Wijaya made it a four-horse race after they beat Kota Ranger in a seven-goal thriller earlier this month but the latter exacted redemption in their rematch just nine days later.
The former FA Cup winners needed a victory to ensure that the quest for the title remains a four-horse race but defeat put them 10 points adrift the pacesetters.
Mohd Esmendy bin Brahim scored from the penalty spot in the second minute with Mohd Khalid Wassadi Salleh bin Haji Mahmud and Md Asyraffahmi bin Norsam adding the goals in the second half.
Wijaya’s next match in the DST Super League will be against Najip FC at the Track and Field of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex tomorrow.
