BRUNEIAN students in Brisbane, Australia, recently held a gathering to mark the 70th birthday celebration of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, as well as Hari Raya Aidilfitri festivities.
Some 35 students consisting of government scholarship students, government loan students and private students attended the event at The Atrium, Building Z, Queensland University of Technology, organised by the Brunei Student Society – Brisbane (BSSBNE), said a press release.
Among the guests were the High Commissioner of Brunei Darussalam to Australia, Haji Zakaria bin Haji Ahmad, and the Academic Coordinator of Education Attaché, Pengiran Haji Ahmad bin Pengiran Haji Md Daud.
The President of BSSBNE, Dayangku Iffah Dhaniah binti Pengiran Kamaruddin, thanked all the guests for their never-ending support and involvement in BSSBNE’s activities.
High Commissioner Haji Zakaria, in his speech, urged the students to always be committed to their studies, strive for success and abide by the Malay Islam Monarchy (MIB) philosophy while they are overseas, adding that students should not hesitate to ask for help or any assistance from the high commission.
Haji Zakaria and Academic Coordinator Pengiran Haji Ahmad then had a photo session with the students prior to the Raya lunch.
The event was followed by a quiz and an interactive game, concluding with the presentation of a token of appreciation to the high commissioner and the prizes to the day’s winners.
