The country recorded two car fires in a week after another car caught fire at the Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah Highway last Friday morning.

Forty-one car fires were recorded from January to May, with the highest in April at 13, followed by eight in January and seven in March and May.

Six firefighters from the Berakas Fire Station, led by DSO Haji Jublee bin Haji Jalil were dispatched to the scene.

The public had extinguished the fire using bottled water before the personnel arrived.

Only a part of the engine had caught fire. The driver and the two passengers escaped unhurt.

The loss and the cause of the fire are under investigation.

The Fire and Rescue Department (FRD) urged the public to enhance their knowledge on safety in the event of a car fire and to ensure that vehicle wiring is done by authorised workshop staff.

Motorists are also advised to carry dry chemical powder and other fire extinguishing equipment in their car while vehicles over seven years need frequent inspections by authorised workshop staff.
