Brunei Darussalam is open to exploring interests with Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO) member states and other participating organisations in adjusting and embracing to the new norms in education, science and culture impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Permanent Secretary (Higher Education) at the Ministry of Education (MoE) Dr Haji Azman bin Ahmad in his capacity as Secretary General of the Brunei Darussalam National Commission for ICESCO attended the virtual meeting on ICESCO National Commissions yesterday.
During the virtual meeting, ICESCO member states including Brunei Darussalam shared experiences and highlighted the initiatives undertaken at national level for different post-crisis scenarios.
Brunei Darussalam, in particular, had shared on adapting to the new norms in teaching and learning for every level of education. This include the actions and practices taken during the pandemic to sustain the delivery of education for students through the whole of nation approach by collaborating with relevant agencies such as non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and private companies in donating laptops and devices to students, and with the Telcos in providing all time access to identified online learning applications and platforms, as well as special data packs for educational sites.
This year’s meeting theme is ‘COVID-19 and Post-Crisis Period: What Priorities, What Actions for Education, Science and Culture?’
The meeting, organised by ICESCO, was attended by senior officials from over 54 member states as well as representatives of international organisations and observers. The main objective of this year’s meeting is to create a platform of exchange and interregional reflection for ICESCO National Commissions, and initiate a forward-oriented reflection on possible realignments of activities and actions scheduled for the post-COVID-19 period in the fields of education, science and culture. Head of International Affairs Unit at MoE Walter Chong Meng Siong and other MoE officers also attended the meeting.
