ICOOKASIA, the number one video recipe channel in Malaysia, is currently spreading its reach with the scheduled launch of iCookAsia Brunei (www.icookasia.com/bn) – a website dedicated to promoting local Brunei cuisine.
In a press conference at Energy Kitchen yesterday, it was explained the Brunei chapter will be launched August 27, during the Eko Kampung Cuisine 2016 – organised by Eco Ponies Garden and Astera Consultant – to be held at LTD 48/1992 Kampong Bang Nukat in Lamunin, Tutong.
iCookAsia’s Founder Ezmir Razali explained that the idea of iCookAsia is to promote food, chefs and cooks from Asia.
He is delighted at the opportunity to build a community in Brunei too – as the local cuisine and chefs are mostly still untapped – and is eager to share this with the rest of the world, with the help of Astera Consultant, which is led by Siti Kaprawi, who is passionate about cooking and who previously organised a number of culinary events, with the BIMP-EAGA Culture & Food Expo 2016 being a recent one. It included the launch of ‘The Spice of Life – Recipes & Remedies’ cookbook that was published by Karangkraf Malaysia.
At the press conference, it was noted that the Eko Kampung Cuisine 2016 will see a Recipe competition themed ‘Cooking with Fruits & Flowers,’ open to all.
To date, the organisers have received 20 registered participants for the two-day event. Others who are keen can register on the spot, with the competition commencing at 10am.
The Eko Kampung Culinary 2016 will focus on the culinary use of flowers in dishes. Three top winners and three consolations will be chosen from three different categories, namely, Category 1 – Soups and Salads, Category 2 – Main Dish, and Category 3 – Dessert and Drinks.
Winners stand to win prizes from Royal Brunei Catering, Brahim’s, Fitness Zone and The Energy Kicthen, as well as the Rizqun International Hotel. All winners will be featured on iCookAsia Brunei’s website and in an upcoming new cookbook entitled ‘Cooking with Fruits & Flowers’ by Astera Consultant to be published in September 2017.
Held in time for the local fruit season, the Eco Kampung Cuisine project is organised by Eco Ponies Garden and Astera Consultant, in cooperation with the Kampong Lamunin Village Consultative Council. It is sponsored by iCookAsia, Brahim’s Food, the Energy Kitchen, Fitness Zone Brunei, EkoBrunei, and The Rizqun International Hotel, and supported by IBTE Sultan Saiful Rijal Campus and the Food Jungle Brunei.
Chefs, cooks and foodies who want to be part of the iCookAsia Brunei can register as a member at www.icookasia.com/bn. Once registered, they can start uploading and sharing their recipes and get to know other members.
iCookAsia welcomes all chefs and cooks from various backgrounds – be it celebrity chefs, professional chefs, restaurant chefs, student chefs or home cooks.
It aims to gather 100 chefs by the end of the year, with at least 1,000 recipe contents from Brunei to be the number one recipe site in Brunei.
