A total of 107 bags of trash were collected during a beach cleanup initiative at the Kuala Belait Beach recently.
The two-hour activity covered about two kilometres of the beach and collected over 1,000kgs of rubbish. It was aimed at raising awareness on the impact of plastic pollution on the marine ecosystem and encouraging the proper disposal of waste.
The initiative was organised by PTAS Aker Solutions. A total of 92 employees from PTAS Aker Solutions, Brunei Shell Petroleum Company Sdn Bhd, Adinin Works and Engineering Sdn Bhd, Shika Sdn Bhd, Zainal Daud Sdn Bhd, Techoil Company Sdn Bhd, Baker Hughes, Petrokon Utama Sdn Bhd (PUSB) and Sahid Sdn Bhd participated in the cleanup.
“We continue to see a high volume of litter on beaches in our environment programmes annually. Plastic fragments are the most common types of litter found,” said PTAS Aker Solutions’ Project Director Bjørn Viken.
“It is our collective responsibility to reduce the environmental impact by not littering on our beaches and ensuring wastes, especially non-biodegradable ones are properly disposed.”
