Hengyi Industries Sdn Bhd awarded scholarships to 23 Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) students during a Scholarship Signing Ceremony at The Empire Brunei yesterday.
Acting Minister of Energy Dato Seri Paduka Awang Haji Matsatejo bin Sokiaw, guest of honour, witnessed the ceremony.
The ceremony marked the seventh batch of students to receive the scholarship under the Joint Chemical and Process Engineering Scholarship Programme established by Hengyi Industries with UBD and Zhejiang University bringing the number of awarded scholarships to 103. Since the inception of the scholarship programme, 57 students have completed their studies and joined Hengyi Industries’ pool of professional workforce. The scholarship programme is expected to produce 11 more graduates by September, a press release stated.
Vice-Chancellor of UBD Datin Dr Hajah Anita Binurul Zahrina binti Pehin Orang Kaya Laila Wijaya Dato Seri Setia Haji Awang Abdul Aziz and Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Brunei Darussalam Yu Hong were also present.
Hengyi Industries Chief Executive Officer Chen Lian Cai signed on behalf of Hengyi Industries while the students signed their agreements with their parents witnessing as guarantors.
As a part of the joint scholarship programme, the students will continue their studies and industrial training at Zhejiang University for one and a half years. During the programme, the scholars will gain first-hand experience working in a real-life operational production plant during the six-month internship at Hengyi Industries’ petrochemical sites in China.
Upon completion of the programme, the 23 scholars will be offered employment opportunities at Hengyi Industries Sdn Bhd.
