The police seized 2,040 cartons of cigarettes of various brands during a crime prevention operation and roadblock along Jalan Labu in the Temburong District on Monday.
Temburong Police District personnel found the contraband cigarettes while conducting a check on a suspicious van parked at the Jalan Labu roundabout. Equipment believed to be drug paraphernalia were also found.
Two local suspects aged 27 and 37 were detained. They were brought to the Bangar Police Station, along with the vehicle and contraband.
The case was handed over to the Royal Customs and Excise Department (RCED) and the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) for investigation.
Details of the case were revealed during a press briefing by Acting Commanding Officer of the Temburong Police District DSP Pengiran Saifuddin bin Pengiran Haji Yussof.
The Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF) stated that it will continue to focus efforts on enforcing the laws and regulations through crime prevention operations and roadblocks.
