Over 50 members of Warisan Kedayan Jerudong Association (Warisan) visited rural Belait yesterday as part of their Badudun programme to learn about the cultures and traditions of Mukim Labi.
Led by Warisan President Abdul Hamid bin Abas Advisor Haji Pungut bin Kasim and Acting Village Head of Kampong Jerudong Kamis bin Panjang, the group visited the Labi Community Hall where they were greeted by Legislative Council (LegCo) member and Acting Penghulu of Mukim Labi Yang Berhormat Hanapi bin Mohd Siput and Belait District Officer Ramlee bin Haji Jamudin.
The group also visited Mendaram Besar Longhouse, where they were greeted by a gulingtangan performance.
Secretary of the longhouse’s committee Marai anak Kasi briefed the visitors on the history of the longhouse and its tightknit community.
Warisan members were also treated to traditional performances by senior residents of the longhouse and shown the array of handicraft as well as fruits and vegetables of the community.
The group ended their visit at Labi Coffee Plantation operated by Pertanian Tropikal Utama, where they learned about agricultural progress and how it could transform an area to benefit the surrounding communities.
